NLC vehicles to carry NATO supplies

PESHAWAR While taking successive attacks on NATO supplies, which also resulted in looting of military equipment, as an argument, the Government has decided to transport the NATO consignments by the trucks of National Logistic Cell instead of hiring trucks owned by private individuals or companies, besides launching crackdown for the recovery of looted equipment. The decision was taken following reports of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) stating that terrorists were using looted NATO supplies, including weapons and other military equipment, in terror attacks across the country. For the safety of NATO supplies and avoiding any incident of looting, the Government is mulling to replace private trucks with the trucks of NLC logistics, and negotiations for which are under way. All preparations, for launching search operation in Peshawar, Jamrud and Bara areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have been given the final touch, besides some traders have also been pinpointed who were involved in dealing of looted weapons. Earlier, a crackdown in Karkhano Market Peshawar resulted in recovery of sophisticated weaponry, night vision goggles, wireless sets and other equipment used for spying. All the recovered items were meant for US/NATO forces in Afghanistan. On the report of law enforcement agencies about the looted military hardware, the Government intends to launch similar crackdown in other provinces as well.
