Our Staff Reporter MULTAN - The Agri Forum Pakistan (AFP), a representative body of farming community, has demanded of the government to fix the price of DAP fertilizer at Rs3,500, Urea Rs1,200 and Nitrophas Rs1800 per bag. Talking to journalists on Wednesday, AFP chairman Ibrahim Moghal said that the fertilizer mafia had earned at least Rs223 billion during the last one year by creating fake hike in the prices of fertilizer. He claimed that each Pakistani family had to bear the burden of an additional Rs25,000 due to increase in fertilizer price. He alleged that the price control mechanism of the govt was silenced by fertilizer mafia through payment of massive bribe. "The fertilizer companies have paid Rs200 million bribe to the concerned government department and in return got the right to fleece poor farmers with both hands," he further alleged. He said that the fertilizer mafia had created a state within the state. "They never print price on fertilizer bag but no one asks them as to why they don't print the price," he lamented. He warned that national production of all crops would seriously dip if the government did not control fertilizer prices. "The farmers are seriously considering decreasing fertilizer use. It will result into a serious decline in crop average," he added.
