Our Staff reporter GUJRAT - The University of Gujrat (UoG) in collaboration with the National Language Authority (NLA) organised a marvellous function "An Evening Dedicated to Memory of Faiz." UoG Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin presided over the function whereas National Language Authority Chairman Dr Anwar Ahmed was the guest of honour on the occasion. Coordinator Murtaza Noor introduced the function. Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Additional Registrar was the stage secretary who performed his task very nicely. Odeum Art Society of the UoG made a fantastic performance entitled 'Let us Talk of the Dawning Hope' which was based on social & intellectual history of Pakistan in the perspective of Faiz' thoughts and Ideas. It was wonderfully reciprocated by the audience with thunderous clapping. Maestro Raees Ali who has already received president's medal for his unmatched performance, bewitched the house with marvellous play of violin. Aalia Rasheed a well-known singer sang sonnets and poems' of Faiz Ahmed Faiz in dhrupad music. Dignitaries like Dr Syed Taqee Abadi from Canada, Dr Shah Mohammad Muree from Balochistan, Dr Rubina Tareen from Multan, Agha Saleem from Hyderabad, Sindh Agha Saleem from Peshawar participated in the function. This kaleidoscope gathering of intellectuals from all parts of Pakistan sealed the authenticity of faiz being the real national harbinger of progressive ethos of a democratic Pakistan and a symbol of national cohesion and unity. Besides Dr Nazeer Ahmed Saangi Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University, Noor Amna Malik Director Higher Education Commission, Tahira Abdullah Faiz, human rights activist. Dr Shahid Iqbal Kamran, Head Faiz chair, Dr Sameena Head of History Department of AIOU, Murtaza Noor, Syed Shabbir Shah, Dr Fouzia Maqsood, Dr Mudassar Iqbal, Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Faizal Iqbal also graced the function. At the very successful close of the function UoG VC Dr Nizamuddin congratulated the organizers for holding such a glorious function. He said that Pakistan today, was in real need of Faiz' optimism. Dr Anwar Ahmed said that Faiz was a symbolic beacon light for all those struggling for human rights, humanitarian concerns and democracy. Faiz' thoughts can be a unifying field for national cohesion and integrity. Kudos to the UOG leadership for celebrating Faiz year and asserting its authenticity and credentials as an Academia of real creativity, innovation and research.
