DUBAI- Following Pakistan’s debacle against Australia, captain Misbah-ul-Haq has hinted at stepping down.
“If could not return to form before World Cup, I will step down my captaincy,” said the Green Shirt captain in his interview to a foreign newspaper in Dubai. His remarks came a day after Australia completed 3-0 series whitewash against Pakistan in the third One Day International (ODI) in Abu Dhabi. “Scoring runs is not so necessary; I’m just focusing on test matches. My country and the captaincy are important for me,” he said.
Pakistan have now lost five straight one-dayers after losing the last two in a 2-1 defeat in Sri Lanka in August. The Green Shirts also lost the only Twenty20 against Australia.
On Sunday, Pakistan were without regular one-day captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, who opted to rest because of a poor run of scores. The PCB earlier this year appointed him ODI captain until 2015 World Cup in February and March in Australia and New Zealand.
