SWAT - At least three suspected militants were killed in a fresh clash with the security forces on Sunday in Kandaksar area of tehsil Charbagh in Swat district.

According to details, late on Saturday night unidentified armed militants had attacked the house of Village Defense Committee member Mohammad Ayub Khan and shot him dead.

Security forces launched a search operation soon after the incident. During the search operation in the area, some terrorists attacked on security forces with heavy weapons. The security forces retaliated and killed three terrorists on the spot.

Pakistan Army’s Malakand division spokesperson Colonel Aqeel Malik confirmed the incident and said one security personnel was also injured in the gunbattle with the terrorists. He further said that security had been beefed up on all entry and exit points of Swat valley while all checkposts will stay on high alert and NIC will be checked thoroughly at all posts.

Agencies add: Heavy weapons and ammunition were recovered during the search operation.

The army declared Swat, once known as the ‘Switzerland of Pakistan’, back under control in July 2009, after defeating radical cleric Fazlullah and his Taliban fighters who waged a two-year campaign of terror in the region.
