islamabad - A book titled, “A Journey Through Resilient Pakistan.” an initiative of NDMA was launched at the Swiss Ambassador’s residence in Islamabad. The event was attended by a large number of diplomats including ambassadors, high commissioners, representatives of UN bodies and government officials. Welcoming the guests at his residence, Ambassador of Switzerland for Pakistan Thomas Kolly, spoke on the common challenges that the two countries share. He also lauded the excellent and mutually beneficial cooperation between Pakistan and Switzerland in the field of Disaster Risk Management. Ambassador Kolly said “Every picture and story in the book shares a story of dedication, inspiration and resilience of Pakistani people. “
Chairman NDMA Lt General Omar Mehmood Hayat while addressing the audience said that these remarkable stories of courage and resilience will serve as an inspirational reminder of how individuals can make a difference and how in the face of even some of the most daunting challenges, courage and leadership can pave the way to greater peace and progress. The book features case studies of people who have contributed as leaders in crises situations and have shown remarkable strength and resilience in times of natural disasters like floods, earthquakes and human-induced disasters.
There are ten stories representing all the five provinces including GB, AJK and FATA. While talking to The Nation, about the book, Bilal Agha the author of “A Journey Through Resilient Pakistan” said the book will take the reader out of their comfort zone and introduce them to those extra ordinary Pakistanis who have faced disasters and catastrophes in the shape of floods, earthquakes, famine and men and women who have stood against the tribal and feudal systems still prevalent in our society.
All these unsung heroes have rebuilt their lives and contributed to the society as agents of change. A short documentary produced on the book was also aired for the audience.
