Islamabad - Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday said that Pakistan is ready to take its bilateral relationship with the United Kingdom to the “next level” for mutual benefit as the country moves towards enhanced stability.
“Pakistan is moving steadily towards enhanced stability and is ready to take Pakistan-UK bilateral security relationship to the next level for mutual benefit, and in other fields of common interest,” the COAS told his British counterpart Chief of Defence Staff General Sir Nicholson Carter.
Discussions with his UK counterparts touched on the bilateral bond created by the Pakistani diaspora in Britain and the two country’s shared interests in global politics and economics.
According to ISPR, the army chief who is on an official visit to United Kingdom has discussed evolving global geo-political and geo-economic environment, security environment and cooperation.
It said that the discussions ranged from the bilateral bond created by sizeable Pakistan diaspora in Britain as well as shared interests in evolving global geo-political and geo-economic environment.
The meeting between Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and UK Chief of Defence Staff General Sir Nicholson Carter was followed by delegation-level talks on security environment and cooperation.
“British leadership was unanimous in acknowledging Pakistan’s extraordinary achievements in counter-terrorism and commended the improved security situation in Pakistan and its positive efforts towards regional peace and stability,” it said.
The appreciation was expressed during Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa's meetings with UK Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholson Carter, British Secretary of State for Defence, Gavin Williamson, Prime Minister's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Gareth Bayley, and National Security Adviser Mark Sedwill in the United Kingdom.
The British leadership acknowledged Pakistan's extraordinary achievements in counter-terrorism.
Earlier on arrival, the army chief was presented guard of honour.
