Baleegh stresses deriving modern tech benefits

BAHAWALPUR

State Minister for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education Engineer Mian Baleeghur Rehman presided the concluding session of the 8th IEEE International Conference on Digital Information Management 2013 held in Islamabad.

ICDIM2013 was organised by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in collaborators with IEEE Technical Management Society USA, Digital Information Research Foundation UK, the local Organising Committee ICDIM 2013, ICT R&D fund and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

The session was attended by Saudi Ambassador Abdul Aziz Ibrahim Al-Ghadeer, Abdoho Ateen, director general of the Rabta-e-Alam Islami, Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, and Vice Chancellor of the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, internationally recognised engineers, professors, government representatives, young professional pursuing engineering education all across the country and civil society members.

In his address, Baleegh praised the Islamia University of Bahawalpur for holding the high level conference in Islamabad. He called for promotion of science, technology in the country to reap the economic benefits of modern technologies. He congratulated the organisers of the conference and particularly those who receive awards.

He also praised recent achievements of the university like securing highest position in the Southern Punjab, organizing international conferences on date palm, mango and bringing regional researchable issues in the lime light. He also vowed to elevate education in the country particularly increasing federal education budget, considering free education for areas having low income like Southern Punjab, FATA and several other areas. He mentioned that now people from these areas pursuing higher education anywhere in the country will receive waiver of tuition, hostel fees and book allowances.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad mentioned a success collaboration story of the Inter-University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences Arts & Humanities that was founded in Bahawalpur bringing eleven top higher education institutes at one platform. The IEEE International Conference on Digital Information Management was a multidisciplinary conference on digital information management, science and technology. The principal aim of this conference was to bring people in academia, research laboratories and industry together, and offer a collaborative platform to address the emerging issues and solutions in digital information science and technology, he added.

The ICDIM intends to bridge the gap between different areas of digital information management, science and technology. The conference originally featured research and industrial papers on the theory, design and implementation of digital information systems, as well as demonstrations, tutorials, workshops and industrial presentations. In his address, the IUB vice chancellor praised his team efforts for making the conference a success. There were following 11 sessions in the conference including: Information Retrieval, Artificial Intelligence. Innovative Computing Systems and E-Systems, Knowledge Management and Engineering, Constraint Programming, Image Analysis & Image Processing, Mobile Data Management, Data Warehousing & Data Mining, Ubiquitous Systems, Security and Control and web Services and also three tutorials on opportunities of software development and IT related business in Pakistan for your entrepreneurs. Scientists from across the globe including the 23 countries participated in the conference.
