Multan: At least 10 people were killed and 59 others were injured in an explosion at Vehari Chowk, Multan today.

According to the media reports, the explosion was intense enough to crack windows of nearby buildings. Soon after the incident, rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured persons to the nearby Nishtar Hospital for medical treatment.

The District Coordination Officer (DCO) has called the explosion a bomb and not a cylinder blast. While talking to journalists, the Nishtar Hospital management said that the condition of some of the injured persons is critical because of the explosion’s intensity.

Meanwhile, the bomb disposal squad has collected evidence from the blast site. The eyewitnesses said that the explosion took place right after an individual entered a rickshaw. The Central Police Officer (CPO) Multan said that the investigation to determine the nature of explosion is underway whereas the DCO called it a bomb blast.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the Multan blast and has expressed his deep condolences on the sad loss of human lives. In a statement, he prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and commiserated with the bereaved families. The prime minister directed concerned authorities to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.
