LAHORE - Different factions of Pakistan Muslim League minus Nawaz group have decided to formally announce unification after Eidul Adha. Ch Shujaat Hussain of PML-Q, Hamid Nasir Chattha of PML-J, Sardar Attiq Ahmad of Muslim Conference, PML-N disgruntled leaders Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Syed Ghaus Ali Shah and Dost Muhammad Khosa with other members of Muslim Leagues met at the Defence residence of Sardar Zulfiqar yesterday. They reached a consensus on giving formal shape to their alliance after Eid.

Approving the modus operandi, they decided to bring in a resolution to unify the factions after inviting those groups of the PML which in the present meeting failed to show up. They agreed to expedite efforts and contacts to bring in all factions under one umbrella and also work out a manifesto and programme for implementation.

In the next meeting, decision will also be taken to appoint head of the united Muslim League as well as other office bearers of the proposed body.

PML-Q president Ch Shujaat Hussai recently met PML-F head Peer Sibghatullah Rashedee and APML chief Pervez Musharraf separately in Karachi. He is also in touch with other factions of the Muslim League including PML-Z of Ijazul Haq and Awami Muslim League of Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

Other than Ch Shujaat, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa and Syed Ghous Ali Shah had been engaged in bringing the factions to one united platform to form a Muslim League which envisioned ideology of the basic and true League that worked under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Shujaat Hussain said that they wanted to build up a genuine Muslim League “unpolluted of the alphabetical letters of A, B or C”, so that the party could play role as per the ideology and thoughts our Founding Father had propounded.

Shujaat strongly criticised the government and said it has miserably failed to deliver the good to the masses and live up to its commitments. “One of our jobs will be to keep a check on the government activities also,” he added.

Ghous Ali Shah said they did not need the different but one ideology which was rooted in the basic Muslim League. After Eid, formation of the Muslim League would come about, he added.

Hamid Nasir Chattha said the factions that failed to attend the meeting were also willing to come to the fold of combined Muslim League. He said through a resolution the faction would be united into one league.

Sardar Attiq said only a united Muslim League could fill the void which stays in the political side of the country.

Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa said they all had one destination and objective to re-invoke and carry forward the mission for which the country was established.

To a question, Khosa ruled out the possibility of taking part in the upcoming local government elections from the new platform. He, however, expressed the hope they would be certainly in the next general elections. He also criticised the performance of the ruling party and said the Nawaz League was far away from the basic concepts of the Muslim League. "For this very reason, the ideological workers of Muslim League are vanishing,” he added.
