Argentina to collaborate in Pak livestock sector

ISLAMABAD (APP) - A four-member high level delegation of Argentina called on the Chairman, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Dr.Zafar Altaf here on Monday and discussed matters of mutual cooperation in the field of Agricultural research in livestock sector. The delegation was headed by, Ambassador of Argentina Rodolfo Martin Saravia. Apprising the delegation about the overall position of the livestock sector in Pakistan, Dr. Zafar Altaf said that the Pakistan was having great potential in this sector to enhance economic growth. Dr. Altaf said that both the countries can benefit from each others experience to boost Livestock sector through mutual collaboration. He suggested that before going into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Livestock experts of both the countries may identify areas of cooperation. On the occasion, Rodolfo Martin Saravia highlighted role of Argentine Livestock sector and its significance in their economy. He said that Argentine was interested in collaborating with Pakistan particularly to improve its meat breeds and control of livestock diseases, besides offering cooperation in other agricultural disciplines. Member Animal Sciences, PARC Dr. A.N. Naqvi apprised the delegation members that Pakistan at present was having eleven 11 cattle breeds and best kinds of buffaloes breeds. It is to be noted that Pakistans livestock sector is the most vital sub-sector of agriculture with national GDP contribution of 11 percent and 52 percent to the agriculture value added. It contributes significantly towards national exports and about 9.0pc of total exports belong to this sector and provides raw material for the Pakistan industry.
