Like-minded to back Hazara movement

ISLAMABAD Strongly criticising PML-N and ANP on the issue of renaming of NWFP and the other days gory incident occurred in Hazara region, leaders of PML-Q (Likeminded) on Tuesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident to punish the responsible elements. Addressing a press conference here at PML-Q (Likeminded) office, President PML-Q (Likeminded), Senator Saleem Saifullah alleged that ANP had taken revenge of 1947 referendum from people of Hazara by renaming NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The party leaders including Chairman Hamid Nasir Chatha, Hummayun Akhtar, Kashmala Tariq and others also present on the occasion. We are going to table amendment in Senate for formation of a separate province in the name of Hazara. New provinces including Hazara would be carved out throughout the country to strengthen the Federation, he announced. Responding to a question, he said democracy within the political parties is imperative and intra-party elections must be made mandatory. PML-Q (Likeminded) leaders Gohar Ayub and Hamid Nasir Chatta were of the view that dwellers of Hazara region were carrying out peaceful demonstrations against the renaming decision but the PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif just by announcing workers convention in Hazara amid tense political scenario charged the peaceful protesters, which led the situation towards the bloodbath. Statements of the NWFP provincial government and the administration representatives added fuel to fire, Gohar Ayub added. He said indiscriminate slaughter in Hazara region proves that ANP leaders have taken revenge of 1947 referendum in which Hazaras dwellers cast their vote in favour of Pakistan. Saleem Saifullah said that there is a war-like situation in whole province but there was peace in Hazara region but now the wrong decisions made by the leaders of some political parties had charged the situation here too. Every Pakistani wants to see Hazara region as an independent province like other four provinces and its the high time to announce it, he added. He said such suggestions like to change the name of Khyber Phaktoonkha as Hazara Phaktoonkha was not enough and masses of the region would also reject any such decision. Forceful movement would be launched for formation of new provinces including Hazara and the Federation would not be weakened through such steps, Gohar held. Referendum should be held to know either the people of Hazara are in support of renaming NWFP as Pakhtoonkhwa or formation of new province, he demanded. Hazara region has resources like tourism, forests, and Terbella Dam royalty and it could sustain as a province, he added. He was of the view that 'Hazara Province Movement is now penetrating into the masses of the region and if someone tried to erect hurdles in its way the consequences would be dangerous. The PPP has double standards, as on one part its backing Saraiki province movement but seemed reluctant to give identity to the Hazara region masses, Saleem Saifullah added. He said when Pakistan came into being it had the population of 30 million and four provinces and now the population is approximately 17 crore, following that reality more provinces was a just demand. He said the Federation would be more strengthened in presence of small provinces. Leaders of PML-Q (Likeminded) unanimously demanded a judicial inquiry into the issue to ascertain the real causes of violence in Hazara. He said PML-Q (Likeminded) leaders during meetings on the issue of renaming of NWFP exercised its due right and submitted retaliation notes but PML-N opposed their decision. Gohar Ayub addressing the press conference said that the provincial government and the administration deputed police force hailing from Swabi and Mardan on forefront, while the local police was put on reserve and this action worsened the situation. Hamid Nasir Chatta, to a question, said no one was aware of such dangerous fall out of this decision. On the occasion, Saleem Saifullah announced a victim relief fund for the unfortunate families, which lost their beloved ones in clashes with the police.
