LAHORE - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) has been inked to enhance corporation between both the departments.
LWMC Managing Director Khalid Majeed and PHA Director General Mian Shakeel singed the draft during a ceremony which was attended by LWMC’s Company Secretary Muzafar Islam, Head of Communication Department Jamil Khawar, Senior Manager Planning Asif Iqbal, Senior Manager Operations Suhail Malik and several other officials.
In this regard, LWMC and PHA are going to launch a campaign titled “Clean and Green Streets Campaign”, a first ever campaign of its nature in the city to improve environment. LWMC and PHA will establish 27 Model Streets (Clean & Green Streets), three each in the nine towns of the city.
Both LWMC and PHA will jointly take steps to improve aesthetics and environment of selected streets by ensuring one time rehabilitation of selected streets, cleanliness of the streets on sustainable basis, and their greening through plantation. Campaign will also include establishment of community sitting corners in the most suitable portions of the streets so that community can have get together.
The selected streets will be adopted by the community to ensure sustainability of the efforts of LWMC and PHA and community representatives, selected through mutual consent of local residents, will be employed to monitor the working of LWMC and PHA staff. The attendance of staff will be marked by society’s representatives.
Later, after evaluation societies who would best maintained their streets would be appreciated and awarded with certificates. The campaign will be extended to other areas of the city after successful completion of first phase.
