Local holiday likely on Chinese president’s visit

Security concerns

Islamabad - The authorities are mulling over declaring local holiday in the federal capital on the very next day of the Chinese President’s arrival in Islamabad so that general public don’t suffer due to extraordinary security measures to be in place for the foreign dignitary.
According to the sources, the government is likely to declare local holiday on the occasion of Chinese president’s visit to Pakistan any day from April 17 to April 22. “The Chinese president will arrive in Islamabad on the evening of any day between April 17-22 as exact date is yet not final … there is likely to be a local holiday in Islamabad and all the examination papers scheduled for the day on the president’s visit would be cancelled,” said the sources.
Army would take charge of the security of the Chinese president and all the route from Koral Chowk to Faizabad would be cordoned off by erecting panaflex – which would serve as security cordon and welcome banner as well, they added.
The Chinese president would stay in Islamabad for 24-32 hours at a local five-star hotel where the law enforcing agencies have already taken over charge of the security.
The management of the hotel, on the request of the authorities, has already started regretting all the booking requests for the tentative days of the visit, the sources added.
The area between Serena and Marriott Hotels would be sealed during the visit of Chinese president and no irrelevant person would be allowed to move there due to security reasons.
Another source told this scribe that the authorities have also asked another five-star hotel in the federal capital not to entertain booking requests for the days of the dignitary’s visit, as an alternative plan for accommodating the foreign delegations.
