Punjab to tap resources, says Shahbaz

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government is making sincere efforts for benefiting from the hidden precious reserves.
Addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat through video link on Monday, the chief minister directed that a practicable financial and business model should be prepared in connection with the iron ore reserves in Kalabagh and a technical and financial feasibility report should also be formulated in this regard.
The minerals secretary while giving a briefing said that according to an estimate, there are reserves of three hundred million ton iron ore in Kalabagh.
Directives on kidney institute: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned for timely completion of the state-of-the-art Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and a research center being set up in Knowledge Park Lahore.
Presiding over a high level meeting on the Institute here on Monday the Chief Minister said the project will be completed expeditiously and it will prove to be a milestone in public health sector.
He said that modern treatment facilities will be available to kidney and liver patients under one roof while poor and destitute patients will be provided free treatment.
President Board of Governors of the Institute gave a briefing on the pace of progress of the project.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that provision of modern treatment facilities to the masses is the priority of the government and billions of rupees are being spent on development projects in this sector. He said that revolutionary reforms are being introduced in health sector while special attention is being paid to the improvement of treatment facilities in hospitals.
He said that an autonomous Board of Governors has already been constituted for running the institute while highly professional staff will be recruited which will be sent abroad for training. He further said that the project will be executed speedily while high standard will also be maintained. He said that a nursing school will also be set up at the institute.
He directed that all necessary measures be taken for completion of the project within stipulated period. He further directed that due attention should be paid to plantation on the land of the institute. He said that an endowment fund will also be set up for running the institute on solid foundations.
Swine flu death noticed: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the news regarding death of a suspected swine flu patient and sought a report from the Health Adviser and Secretary.
He directed that complete investigation into the matter should be carried out to ascertain the causes of death.
