BEIJING - Australia displayed its awesome firepower in decimating South Africa by 10 to nought while South Korea overcame the ambitious home team China after coming back from a two goal deficit to pump in five on the trot here in the brace of morning games Wednesday. Having lost the opener against New Zealand, Korea was down by two goals after the first eight minutes but still went on to notch its first win quite comfortably. Korea's short corner expert Jang Jong Hyun came to the rescuse with a hat-trick (35th, 55th and 57th minutes) after Seo Jong Ho had pulled one down in the 14th minute. As if to rub it in further, with three minutes to go, Kang Seong Jung added the fifth. With Na Yubo and Song Yi getting two quick goals with the clock at only eight minutes, China may have envisioned a win to assuage the big loss against Germany (4-1). But the Chinese lost the script and the momentum in the second half, and the Koreans brought their experience into play to prevail. Since pace is the forte of both these teams, there were ferocious counter-attacks from both ends. A measure of the physicality of the encounter is reflected in three suspensions, with Korea forced to playing with just nine on the field as Cha Jong Bok and You Hyo Sik were suspended for tripping Chinese forwards. In the second half, with tension mounting, Hu Liang of China too received a yellow card. Keen on ending top of the pool 'B', Australia followed its 6-1 drubbing of Canada, with another big win against a hapless South Africa - by 10 evenly distributed goals in each half. The tally was exactly double of what Holland, the other leading side in the group of six, had managed against the South Africans. Eli Matheson pumped in three goals and Jamie Dwyer and David Guest helped themselves to two apiece while Grant Schubert, Fergus Kavanagh and Des Abbot got one each to contribute to the facile win. Dwyer got the first one in the second minutes, and that opened the floodgates. South Africa had no answer to this relentless attack, and in the end was resigned in defeat.
