KARACHI - Pakistan's oil and gas production slightly increased by 4 per cent and 2.9 per cent on year on year basis, respectively. The oil production in FY08 recorded at 71,120 barrels per day (bpd) as compared to 68,374bpd last year. While Gas production of the country stood at 4,039 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) in FY08 versus 3,927mmcfd last year, whereas LPG production fell by 1.7 per cent YoY to 1,517 tons per day (tpd), Pakistan Petroleum Information Service (PPIS) annual figures for FY08 said. According to the PPIS annual figures, Oil and Gas Development Company, OGDC's oil and gas production growth in FY08 was recorded at impressive levels of 5.1 per cent and 3.7 per cent YoY, respectively. The growth was impressive considering the company's FY07 production level of approximately 42,000bpd. The main contributors to the increase in oil production were the Bobi (OGDC stake of 100%), Chanda (72%), Kunnar (100%), Mela (56%) and Makori (28%) fields. OGDC's fully owned and operated fields were the main contributors to oil production contributing 86% of the total oil production. The increase from Kunnar field raised its overall contribution to OGDC's total oil production to 12.8% in FY08 from just over 11 per cent last year. Gas production increase of 3.7 per cent YoY during FY08 was mainly due to production hikes from the Qadirpur (75% stake) and Uch (100%) fields. Pakistan Petroleum Limited, PPL's oil production in FY08 grew by 43.3 per cent YoY mainly on the back of production commencement from the Mela field (PPL stake of 26%). The increase in oil production was also contributed by the Adhi (39%) and Makori (28%) fields. Approximately contributions to the company's total oil production from these 3 fields in FY08 stood at 48% (Adhi), 14% (Makori) and 30% (Mela). Gas production of the company remained stagnant at 1,004mmcfd during FY08 which was mainly due to a steady decline in gas production from the company's major field Sui (100% stake); however, this decline was offset by an increase from the Adhi, Kandhkot, Qadirpur and Sawan fields. Pakistan Oilfields, POL's oil and gas production maintained its downward trend as it fell by 13.5 per cent and 3 per cent YoY, respectively during FY08. Oil production of the company was principally affected by the fall in oil production from the Pindori field which averaged 2,955bpd in FY08, representing a fall of 44 per cent YoY. Furthermore, apart from the 100% owned and operated Balakassar and Khaur fields, all the other POL operated fields suffered oil production falls in FY08. Some respite to the company's falling oil production was provided by the Adhi (POL stake of 11%) and Makori (21%) fields. Average gas production of the company fell modestly by 3 per cent YoY to 45mmcfd during FY08 as against 47 mmcfd last year.
