Day Rahay Khudda day

The recent catastrophic floods in Pakhtunkhwah, Punjab and Sindh have pushed the development efforts in these areas back to square one. The World Bank has agreed to provide $900 million for relief and reconstruction of flood-ravaged areas and the US is already providing 55 million US dollars. China has also agreed to give US$ 1.6 million for rehabilitation and reconstruction. Clearly, global powers realize the importance of sacrifices Pakistan has made in recent years in the war against terror. The reluctance shown by our own people to donate is because of a lack of transparency in Pakistan. The current democratic setup needs to make sure these donations are used in the most appropriate and transparent way. -RASHID SALEEM, Islamabad, August 13.
