Gunmen killed a Yemeni intelligence officer in the flashpoint southern province of Lahij, a security official said on Saturday. "Armed men ambushed the chief of the Lahij intelligence service's investigations department, Colonel Ali Abdul Kareem al-Ban, who was killed in a hail of bullets," the official told a foreign news agency. The attack took place on Friday evening in the town of Hutah where security forces were swiftly deployed, witnesses said. On August 5, three members of Yemen's security forces were killed in an attack in the southern town of Zinjibar, the defence ministry's news website reported.
