LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, while greeting the nation on its 64th Independence Day, has said living nations display unity and harmony in difficult times and never hesitate from rendering any sacrifice. In his message on Independence Day, the CM said the nation was celebrating the Independence Day this year at a time when a large part of the country was devastated by the worst flood in the history of the country which had affected millions of people and damaged property worth billions of rupees. He said the people should help their calamity-stricken brethren in these testing times and demonstrate the same spirit of sacrifice and selflessness which was displayed on August 14, 1947. The CM further said the Muslims of the Subcontinent, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Mohammad Iqbal, achieved a separate and independent country after continuous efforts and a heroic struggle. He said the country after passing through many tests, had become a nuclear power. However, there is a need to eliminate inequality, corruption and poverty through good governance and transparency. It is his firm belief that Pakistani nation will be able to shed reliance on others and achieve a lofty status in the comity of nations, he added.
