Police, wardens hinder relief work

LAHORE - City police and Traffic Wardens are allegedly causing hindrances in the smooth delivery of relief package of flour bags to the masses in Ramazan Bazaars and other designated shops in Punjab. The truck drivers of the flour millers have complained to their mill owners that they are being pressurised by corrupt policemen for illegal grati-fications at the time of unloading and distribution of flour bags in the holy month of Ramazan. A delegation of flour millers headed by the Sufi Bilal Aslam met with the Chief Secretary Punjab on Friday and forwarded the reservations of the flour millers who are being pressurised by the policemen in the Ramazan Bazaars. The delegation informed the chief secretary that police deputed in the Ramazan Bazaars and at other designated shops were demanding illegal gratifications from the truck drivers, as the trucks loaded with the flour bags had to stop for unloading and distribution of flour bags. The delegation informed the Punjab chief secretary that most of the policemen found blackmailing the truck drivers while using different pretexts. Sufi Bilal Aslam told this scribe that the Punjab chief secretary had asked the IG Punjab to take action against the corrupt minds, which were demanding illegal gratifications from the truck drivers. The chief secretary assured the delegation that no body will be allowed to create obstacle in the process of bringing relief to the masses.
