LAHORE - All is set to celebrate the 65th Independence Day with traditional zeal and fervour across the country today (Sunday) and special arrangements have been made to mark the Day at government and private level. The Day will dawn with 21-gun salute and special prayers in mosques at Fajr for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country. All the government and semi government departments will hold special flag-hoisting ceremonies at their respective offices, while major functions in this regard will be held at Wahga Border, Town Hall, Punjab Assembly and Lahore High Court. All the government and private buildings of the provincial capital have been beautifully illuminated with colourful lights, multi-colour banners and buntings. The provincial capital is looking like a 'City of lights especially after the sunset when the lights are switched on. Special programmes including debating competitions, special plays by dramatic societies to highlight the Independence Day struggle and national songs functions will be held at colleges and universities, while similar functions will also be held at public and private schools. PTV and several private channels will also air special transmission in connection with the Independence Day, while newspapers will also publish special editions highlighting the importance of the Day. Various political parties and civil society organisations will also arrange seminars, walks and debates to mark the Day. Law enforcement agencies in the provincial metropolis have made arrangements to deal with any untoward incident on this occasion, while special deployments will also be in place on the Independence Day. Meanwhile, the main celebrations, which take place in Islamabad include flag-hoisting ceremonies. President and Prime Minister will raise the national flag at the Presidency and Parliament buildings and deliver speeches highlighting the achievements of the government, goals set for the future and in the words of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam, bring 'Unity, Faith and Discipline to its people.
