Independence Day: Karachi violence claims three lives

The unbridled spree of violence continued overnight in the metropolis during which at least three people including a unit incharge and an operative of a political party were killed, officials said on Tuesday. According to details, some miscreants riding a motorcycle opened firing near Madina Masjid in the city area of Saeedabad, killing Sunni Tehreek’s office-bearer Aftab Chishti and a worker Faheem Qadri on the spot. Three other persons sustained injuries in the incident. The incident spawned tension in the entire area, raising apprehension that situation may aggravate during the next some days. The ST leader Shahid Ghauri termed the incident as the failure of the government. Meantime, after the incident of double murders here in Baldia Town, heavy contingent of police conducted search operation in Manghopir areas of Kanwari Colony, Pakhtoonabad and Sultanabad amidst security cordon and took in custody over 25 suspected people. According to police sources, weapons, narcotics and snatched motorbikes were also recovered from the possession of the arrested miscreants. Police said the suspects are being further interrogated. A youth Asif gunned down near Nursery bus-stop at Shahra-e-Faisal. The deceased was resident of Gulshan-e-Maimar. Meantime, a firing incident took place near Khyber Chowk in Frontier Colony where a local office-bearer of a political party Amir Sardar and workers Rehmat Ali and Bakht Khan and an unknown passer-by lost their lives. Earlier on Monday, some unidentified opened fire in Frontier Colony area of Orangi Town and critically wounded four people. The injured were rushed to Jinnah Hospital where ANP activists Toor Khan and Zahid Khan and a passerby succumbed to their injuries. Panic gripped the area after the incident and all the markets were shut down. Some unidentified persons opened fire in Federal B Area and Mominabad and forced the traders to close their shops.
