Different government departments have been making all-out efforts to cope with any flood-related emergency and putting in place special arrangements to ensure safety of the public, especially those living near and on the banks of different rivers.

According to details, in Sargodha more than 116 villages situated on the banks of Jhelum and Chenab rivers have been declared red zone area in view of looming flood threat due to the torment rains across the district. The district administration, the Police and Rescue 1122 authorities have established 80 emergency help centres in the red zone area while efforts to fortify the embankment of the rivers are also going on. The live-saving jackets, boats and other essential equipment have already been provided to the authorities concerned.

In Vehari the district administration finalised arrangements to cope with any contingency arises from the rising-level of water in River Sutlej as currently 14,000 cusecs of water is passing from Islam Headwork

Burewala Assistant Commissioner Saifullah Sajid while talking to “The Nation” here, said that three emergency relief camps had been set up in Mauza Jamlera, Sahuka and Saldera and the officials of the Agriculture, Revenue, Health and Livestock departments had deployed to deal with any emergency. He said that 31 villages and katchi abadis in Burewala sub-division could be affected due to surge in floodwater. The AC said that the Burewala sub-division villages including Mauza Rahim Shah, Mauza Gahi Shah, Mauza Murad Ali, Mauza, Sahuka, Mauza Lakhoka Kalan, Mauza Judheka, Patan Mumunka 39/EB, Balara Jamlera, Mauza Suman Shah, Mauza Saldera, Saldera Hatar and Saldera Attar were at risk, adding that early warning would be given to them in case of emergency as the government didn’t want to create panic at the moment as so far situation is under control.

In the sub-division Sutlej River pond area carries 1712 living families with 7,469 population, about 9,886 cattle heads and 10,838 acres of crops are in the area as well and Burewala Revenue Circles of Joyia Bungalow, Umerpur Bungalow have been declared sensitive by the local administration.
