Arrest warrants for ex-MPA

LAHORE  - District and Sessions Judge Syed Hamid Hussain Shah issued arrest warrants of Punjab Assembly’s former member Rana Asif Mehmood while dismissing his bail application on Tuesday.
As proceeding started, the counsel of Rana Asif appeared before the court and submitted that his client was suffering from Alute Pancreatitis. He said Rana Asif went abroad for his treatment as he could not appear before the court. The counsel requested the court to grant him immunity in this regard, so that he could undergo better treatment of his disease. The judge after hearing the counsel dismissed the bail application filed by Rana Asif and also issued his arrest warrants. Reportedly, former member of Punjab Assembly Rana Asif Mehmood was found accused of having dual nationality. Later, the Election Commission became party against him.
The commission filed a suit against him and requested the court to punish him in accordance with the law as he violated Public Representation Act 1976 and was not capable of being member of provincial assembly. The judge adjourned further hearing till August 29.
