LAHORE - Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar called on Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan at Mansoora here on Tuesday and exchanged views with him on important national issues.

JI Naib Ameer Ch. Aslam Saleemi, Secretary General Liaquat Baloch and others were also present at the meeting.

Later, talking to media men, Syed Munawar Hasan stressed upon the government to immediately convene an APC on issues concerning national security, and said that delay in this regard would only increase unrest among the masses.

The JI Ameer said the government should seriously consider the talks offer by the Taliban.

He said, the present government was following the footsteps of the previous regime and had not shown any seriousness on the national issues. The government should hold the APC after thorough preparation and with a clear agenda so that the issues confronting the country could be resolved, he said

Munawar questioned that as the world community considered the drone attacks unlawful, why it did not raise voice for an end to the attacks. The Punjab Governor commended Jamaat e Islami’s services for Islam, the Muslim Ummah, and for the Pakistani nation, especially in the fields of welfare and relief.

He said the JI’s stance on national issues had always been in harmony with the nation’s aspirations. He also appreciated the services of the Islamic Mission in UK and Europe for promoting brotherhood among the Pakistanis and the Muslims at large.

He said the drone attacks were unlawful and he had raised his voice against them even in the British Parliament. However, he said the entire nation would have to make a joint struggle to meet the challenges facing the nation and the country and to restore peace, adding, world at large should get the message that the Pakistani nation stands united.  He said that the government should avail the services of Syed Munawar Hasan who could play an effective role in removing the hurdles in the talks with the Taliban.
