All is set to celebrate Independence Day, the 14th of August, in entire South Punjab region as the atmosphere echoes with the melody of national songs.

Stalls of buntings, national flags, badges and other items relating to the Independence Day have appeared like mushrooms in all areas of Multan, Vehari, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and other towns of South Punjab. A large number of citizens, especially children and youngsters, are witnessed buying flags, badges, stickers and buntings.

The citizens have decorated their cars, motorbikes, buses, wagons and vehicles with national flags and stickers. Playing national songs at full volume, car riders rallied on city roads throughout the Tuesday night. The citizens and government departments have also illuminating their buildings.

Besides shopping buntings and other Independence Day related articles, the excited children got national flags painted on their faces to celebrate the event. “The enthusiasm seen in the younger generation for celebrating particularly this Independence Day is very important keeping in view the prevailing law and order situation across the country,” said an analyst Azizul Haq Qureshi while talking to this scribe. He was of the opinion that the government should adopt all out means to attract the youth towards August 14 celebrations with a view to developing national passion among them.
