LAHORE - The basic purpose of celebrating Independence Day is to pay tributes to the sacrifices of martyrs of Pakistan Movement, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said yesterday while congratulating the nation on 70th Independence Day.

“14th August is very important day in the national history. Those who sacrificed their lives for stability and peace in the country are national heroes and we should also pay tributes to them while celebrating Independence Day,” the CM said in a message.

He further stressed the need to strive for the achievement of the objectives of creation of Pakistan in the light of principles and ideals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

He also urged the need to find out why the nations that got freedom after Pakistan have progressed while Pakistan is still facing a number of problems.

“There is a need to adopt a collective approach to overcome all the problems and put the country on the road to progress and development,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CM issued instructions to the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order to ensure foolproof security arrangements on Independence Day.

He ordered the police and law enforcement agencies to remain fully alert and perform their duties regarding protection of life and property of citizens with efficiency.
