Rawalpindi - Police took into custody a 20-year-old man on charges of making an attempt to snatch an infant baby girl from her mother at National Housing Scheme on Adiala Road, sources informed yesterday. The accused was identified as Kamal Khan, a resident of Charsadda. Zahida Bibi was going to a market while holding her 5-month-old daughter Sehar when a knife-wielding man intercepted her and tried to snatch the baby girl. However, the lady started making noise which caught attention of labourers working in an under-construction building, sources said adding that the labourers caught him.

The scaring lady took refuge into the house of her sister located nearby.

Police, upon calling, rushed to the scene and arrested the man and shifted him to police station.

Nonetheless, SHO police station Saddar Bairooni, Malik Muhammad Yar, when contacted, said that Kamal was caught by police on charges of hen theft and he is being interrogated. “Kamal stole a hen and was slaughtering it with a small knife when area people caught him and handed over to police assuming that he might be the man involved in stabbing girls in Morgah,” he said. He said that senior police officers are grilling Kamal and so far police have not registered a case against him.

Meanwhile, City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi yesterday directed SP Saddar Division to extend the sphere of investigation against a man who was arrested on charges of sodomizing a teenager and allegedly running a gang that might be involved in molesting more than 100 children in Kahuta.
