ISLAMABAD Commander International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), General David H Petraeus, called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at GHQ on Monday. According to ISPR, the visiting dignitary remained with him for sometime and discussed matters of the professional interest. Meanwhile, a statement issued by the US Embassy said that they discussed various topics of the mutual interest and ways to improve regional security. This was Gen Petraeus fourth visit to Pakistan as the NATO ISAF Commander, although he has long-established relationships with General Kayani and the Pakistani military from his time as the US Central Command commander. He visited Pakistan on November 2. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani while talking to Deputy Director of US CIA, who called on him at PMs House Monday evening, underlined the need for adopting a common strategy by Pakistan, US, allied forces and Afghanistan to fight the menace of terrorism. Premier Gilani hoped for enhanced cooperation between the three sides on defence, security and intelligence matters. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan would support the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process in order to bring about peace and stability in that country as and when the reconciliation strategy by Afghan Government was shared with Pakistan. During the meeting, the outcome of Lisbon NATO Summit with reference to New Exit Strategy of NATO and ISAF forces, the reconciliation and reintegration efforts in Afghanistan, Pakistans front line role in campaign against terror, and cooperation between Pakistan and US in defence and security areas also came under discussion. Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Senator Syeda Sughra Imam, Secretaries Foreign Affairs and Defence, and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
