LAHORE - Dozens of nurses from Saida Waheed Fatima Memorial Hospital (FMH) College of Nursing on Monday held a demonstration on Raiwind Road to press for their demands. The nurses marched to the residence of PML-N Chief and Punjab CM and dispersed after getting assurance from Begum Kalsoom Nawaz that their demands would be fulfilled in a couple of days. The nurses blocked the Raiwind Road near Khyaban-i-Jinnah and chanted slogans against the college management. The protestors were demanding stipend of last five months which were not paid to them despite promises made by the nursing institute. Heavy contingent of the police from various police stations along with traffic wardens reached the site immediately when the angry nurses started marching towards Jati Umra. On finding strong resistance and failing to stop the march, lady police was also called on the spot. The police tried to stop them at a kilometer away from the PML-N Chiefs residence but the nurses crossed the barriers and gave a sit-in there for half an hour. A police officer said the nurses dispersed peacefully when Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif assured them that their demands will be met within a couple of days.
