ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Ordnance Factory Explosives won the table tennis final by defeating AA Factory 3-1 in the POF Board Inter-Factories Table Tennis Competition here on Monday. M Farooq of Explosives Factory was declared best player of the tournament. In officers singles category, Naveed Hussain Shah of POF Institute of Technology defeated Abdullah of POF Havelian by 2-1 in the final while Muhammad Waseem of SAA Factory took 3rd position. In Mens Singles Muhammad Farooq got 1st; Waqar 2nd and Amir Ashraf got third position respectively. As many as 14 factories of POFs are participating in these competitions. These matches are being held on the special directives of the POF Chairman. A huge crowd witnessed the final match. AA Factory took 2nd position and SAA Factory got 3rd position. In Under-16 event, Hamza Hussain of Beacon House School became the Junior Champion while Qasim Abbas of the same school took 2nd and Abdur Rehman got 3rd position. Murtaza Khan and Ahmed Din acted as Umpires of the match. These Under-16 events were held among different schools of Wah Cantt on the special instructions of Chairman POF Board so that sports could be promoted at the grass roots level. Brig Fiaz Mahmood Qamar was the chief guest on the occasion who himself has been an international footballer and has played league football matches in Germany. The chief guest on this occasion felicitated POF Sports Control Board for holding such as magnificent tournament and paid rich tributes to the players on their excellence performance throughout the tournament. He said that the promotion of healthy activities among the young generation was vital and assured his full cooperation to the players and also desired the concerned departments hold these events on regular basic every year. Those who were present on this occasion include Lt Col Tariq Shaad, Lt Col Tahir Liaqat Awan, Lt Col Muhammad Saeed, Lt Col Usman Ghani, Staff Officer to Chairman POF Board Muhammad Tariq Mehboob & Secretary POF Sports Control Board Muhammad Aqeel. Athletics, Tug of War and Kabbadi matches will be held immediately after Ashura-Muharram.
