Peshawar school bus bombed; 1 killed

PESHAWAR A person was killed while five others got injured, when a school bus of Sir Syed Islamia Model School hit by an explosive device on Charkhana Road in Banamari area on Monday. Sources informed that the bus was on its way to pick the school children from Islamia Model School when suddenly a planted improvised explosive exploded with a big bang. The blast resulted in killing of one person and injuring five others. The blast also badly damaged the school bus. The injured persons were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar for emergency medical treatment of the wounded persons. Soon after the blast rescue teams rushed to the site and retrieved the injured persons from the blast site. Heavy contingent of police and personnel of bomb disposal squad was rushed towards the site and the area was then cordoned off. Police also launched search operation in the area and arrested a suspected person from the site of the blast. The identity of the killed person was not ascertained as his body was badly mutilated, while the injured were identified as the driver, Goher Ali, son of Sabz Ali; Noman son of Tasleem; Gul Faraz, son of Khadi Khan; Arsalan, son of Saifullah and a minor Emman. Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour visited blast site and strongly condemned the tragic incident. He said that terrorists after their defeat were now targeting innocent children. Central President of Awami National Party strongly condemned the blast and termed it a barbaric incident. Agencies add: Senior city administration official Siraj Ahmed said the bomb was placed in a dustbin on a roadside. It was the fifth bombing since last Monday as the country steps up security for the holy month of Muharram. My house was nearby and I was standing up to get down when there was a deafening explosion. I saw a fireball and heard the explosion. I didnt know what happened after that, said nine-year-old Imam Gulzar. The fourth-grader spoke to AFP at Peshawars Lady Reading Hospital, where she was being treated for minor injuries. Driver Gohar Ali said there were only two girls left on the bus because all the others had already been taken home. While I was en route to drop off the last two, there was a blast on my right-hand side. I heard it and then passed out. I dont know what happened after that, he said. Two suspects were detained at the scene. A police official said that the bomb might have been intended for one of the police patrols that frequently pass by the area.
