Like other parts of the country, the faithful took out processions and arranged special sittings to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.
Police adopted tight security measures to maintain peace. More than 50,000 policemen were deployed across the Punjab province to provide security cover to 1089 precessions, and 2564 Majalis. Similarly, hundreds of policemen were also employed around 129 flashing points in the province to ensure foolproof security on the occasion of Chelum of Imam Hussain (RA).
According to the security plan, at least 1,789 CCTV cameras were installed for consecutive monitoring of processions, important buildings, and other sensitive points.
Also, walkthrough gates were placed at the entry and exit points of the main precessions and Majalis whereas 5449 metal detectors were used for frisking. According officials, at least 231 police officers, 530 inspectors, 1929 sub inspectors, 2972 assistant sub inspectors and more than 30,000 head constables and constables were deployed across the province. Similarly, at least 13,353 male volunteers and 4063 female volunteers joined in for maintaining peace.
The police spokesperson further said that no less than 679 Peace Committees were activated at police station, Tehsil, and district level to maintain religious harmony on this occasion.
 “In case of any untoward happening, at least 33 companies of Pakistan Army and 12 companies of Pakistan Rangers Punjab will also remain on standby to respond to the situation,” the police spokesperson said on Friday.
According to an official circular, all kinds of leaves for policemen and the operational and security staff had already been cancelled due to security duties.  On the directives of provincial police chief, the traffic police have also implemented a plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic in Lahore besides marking alternate routes for the motorists on the occasion of Chelum of Imam Hussain (RA).  A Lahore police spokesman said that a special control room was activated at the office of the DIG (Operations) to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the processions and Majalis.
At least 5000 policemen were deployed in different parts of the provincial metropolis to maintain law and order on the occasion of Chelum of Imam Hussain (RA), he added.
