Four new polio cases reported from KP, Fata

ISLAMABAD - Four new polio cases were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) on Saturday, raising the total number of polio cases in the country to 280 this year.
According to National Institute of Health, Rehan, 13-month-old male child, who paralysed hailed from district Swat.
Eid Gul, 11-month-old child, from South Waziristan, Ihtesham, a 5-month-old-child, and Abdul Mateen, a 21-month- child, both from Khyber Agency, contracted the virus as they were not vaccinated against the disease.
This year so far, 172 polio cases have been reported from Fata, 61 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 27 from Sindh, 17 from Balochistan and three from Punjab.
Pakistan is one of the three countries in the world where polio remains endemic while the country is facing international travel restrictions. Efforts to stamp it out have been badly hit in recent years by attacks on vaccination teams.
