ISLAMABAD - Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Tuesday recommended elevation of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Mian Mazhar Alam Khan as the judge of the Supreme Court. The seat in the top court became vacant after the resignation of Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman, who tendered his resignation after the Supreme Court judgment regarding illegal appointments in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). A meeting of the JCP was held under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, which was attended by four senior judges of the apex court, law minister, the attorney general for Pakistan and representative of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). The JCP also proposed to appoint senior puisne judge of the PHC, Justice Yahya Afridi as the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court. Now the suggestions of the JCP would be sent to the Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointments for approval.
