PESHAWAR - To strongly oppose the proposed merger of the tribal areas with KP province, Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led JUI-F’s FATA chapter will launch a movement for making tribal areas a separate province by organising a big power show at Faizabad on December 23.

After having been popular for staging sit-ins, Faizabad, a junction connecting the federal capital Islamabad with Rawalpindi will be again the focal point. From day one, Maulana Fazlur Rehman is opposing the move and demanded a separate identity for tribal areas.

The JUI-F workers and supporters will come to the show from both KP and FATA to present a sizable strength to stop the government from implementing the recommendations of FATA Reforms Committee, which has mentioned in its report that majority of the tribesmen and political parties were favouring integration of tribal belt with the KP.

To express dismay over a recent announcement from the government side of abolishing the FCR law and extending jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Peshawar High Court to FATA, JUI-F has decided to expedite its movement against the merger, in case FATA comes under the domain of the apex courts, it would be considered an advancement towards the implementation of the recommendations of the committee gradually. On Monday last, the PML-N led coalition government in centre had firmly decided to table FATA Bill containing the abolition of the FCR and extension of the jurisdiction of the apex courts to FATA. The bill was later removed from the agenda of the National Assembly, which was strongly opposed by the opposition and lawmakers from the tribal areas as well on floor of the house.

It was reported that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was the force behind dropping of FATA Bill from the NA agenda. Moreover, Maulana had made it clear to the government that being a partner, JUI-F has not been taken onboard before tabling the bill in the National Assembly.

Appreciating Maulana Fazlur Rehman for stopping FATA Bill, the JUI-F Fata chapter vowed to continue opposition of tribal areas merger with the KP. They added that they would only back mainstreaming tribal by making it a separate province.

This was announced by the party’s FATA chapter Chief Mufti Abdul Shakoor. He said that they wanted the abolishment of the FCR in Fata, but against its integration with the province.

Inviting other political and religious parties to attend the proposed gathering in Faizabad, which will also be addressed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said that let us have negotiation on FATA’S future status instead of making it an issue for political scoring. It merits mentioning here that all political and religious parties are favouring integration of Fata with KP except PkMAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Mualana Fazlur Rehman, who are staunch opponent of the plan.
