KARACHI - An elderly man died due to the alleged police torture in Korangi locality within the limits of Zaman Town police station on Wednesday.
Police said that the raid had been conducted at a house of Muhammad Akram, son of Freed Alam, on a tip off ahead of the arrest of Akram allegedly involved in motorbike lifting.
Police arrested Akram while his father died accidently at the time of arrest.
On the other side, family members and scores of the residents were gathered at the Zaman Town police station alleging that the police during the raid tortured Fareed Alam to death while arrested Akram.
Following the protest police release Akram while IGP Allah Dino Khowaja took the notice of the issue directed SSP Korangi to conduct inquiry into the matter.
Bandit gunned down
Ranger claimed to have gunned down a bandit in Korangi locality within the limits of Zaman Town police station on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for Sindh Rangers said that two armed bandits were busy looting the passerby in Korangi area when residents informed Rangers. Rangers timely reacted upon the information and trying to intercept the bandits but gunmen resorted firing and trying to flee. Rangers troops running after the bandits and during exchange of fire one of the bandit sustained bullet wounds while his accomplice managed to flee. The wounded bandit was later shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Nasir aka Kala wanted to the police in number robbery cases.
13 SUSPECTS ARRESTED
Rangers claimed to have arrested at least 13 suspects including political workers associated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement London and Lyari gangsters while recovered weapons from their possession.
Ranger raided and arrested an activist associated with the defunct Sipah-e-Muhammad Pakistan from Rizvia locality while recovered weapons from their possession. The accused person identified as Atif Abbas Naqvi involved in various cases of target killing and extortion.
Another accused person affiliated with MQM London arrested from Preedy police limits. Rangers said that the accused person Daniyal was involved in wall chalking and extortion cases. Rangers also carried out the raids and Gizri, Gulberg, Korangi Industrial Area and Rizvia while arrested four accused persons including Meraj, Saifullah, Zulfiqar Ahmed and Muhammad Nasir.
The accused persons arrested were involved in number of criminal activities including target killing, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other sort of criminal activities. Ranger also arrested Anjum Malik and Fayaz aka Don in a raid conducted in Korangi locality. Rangers said that the accused persons were involved in kidnapping for ransom cases while rangers recovered weapons from their possession.
At least five accused persons were arrested Chakiwara area of Lyari. The accused persons including Fawad Ali, Balaj, Asghar aka Dada, Abbas Ali and Haji Junaid arrested were involved in number of criminal activates while running narcotics dens in the locality. Rangers claimed to have recovered weapons and narcotics from their possession.
