rawalpindi - Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Chaudhry Nadeem Aslam has directed the authorities concerned not to approve any commercial building plan in Murree, if the design does not enfold proper parking and sewerage system.
He also instructed to carry out survey of 69 buildings identified as dangerous and figure out the nature of threat to resolve the issue accordingly.
Commissioner issued these directions while addressing a meeting held in his office to review the dangerous buildings in the division here on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Talat Mehmood Gondal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tariq Salam Marwat, Assistant Commissioner Murree Arif Ullah Awan, ACG Ateeque ur Rehman and officers of highways, forest and environment departments.
Commissioner said that there needs to be an environmental assessment in sensitive areas like Kahuta, Murree and Kotli Sattiyan by respective departments to identify and reject any building which can be an environmental hazard. He asked the authorities concerned not to give approval to any map of building in Murree which lacks facilities of parking and proper sewerage system.
He said that steps should be taken to preserve beauty of the nature. Commissioner Rawalpindi further said that due to rains there is a high threat of building collapse and therefore it is imperative to take necessary measures in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Talat Mehmood Gondal said that geo-mapping should be done for owners of buildings seeking permission to renovate their buildings in order to make them stand at their foot prints. He said that needful steps should be taken to ensure safety of precious lives as well as to maintain beauty of the place.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Nadim Aslam Chaudhry and Chairman Metro Bus Service Muhammad Hanif Abbasi in a meeting said the numbers of passengers travelling in Metro Buses have decreased from 15,000 to 10,000 because of damages done by protestors of Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) during sit in at Faizabad Interchange. They said the government would repair all the damaged metro bus stations soon to provide best quality travel facilities to passengers of twin cities. “Some 1,20,000 passengers commute everyday in 68 buses plying between Islamabad and Rawalpindi,” they said.
He said that MBS authorities would also repair the seepage and dripping on package two from Committee Chowk to Sixth Road besides carpeting the track. Chairman MBS and ex-MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said the authorities have completed the internal repair work and floodlights have been functional on all the 8 packages.
He said the government has also made arrangements to pump out rain water filling the metro stations.
