SIALKOT--A World Bank (WB) delegation visited the site of the under-construction project of Sialkot Tannery Zone near Khambraanwala here on Wednesday.
The district administration told the WB delegation that all the 250 tanneries from Sialkot city would soon be shifted to this tannery zone. The government has sought the financial assistance of the World Bank (WB) for the early installation of an international standard water treatment plant at the under completion mega project of Sialkot Tannery Zone.
On the occasion, the World Bank (WB) experts showed keen interest in Sialkot Tannery Zone Project and their assured their early technical and financial assistance for th eproject.
Giving detailed briefing about the Sialkot Tannery Zone Project to the World Bank (WB ) delelgation, the Sialkot deputy commissioner said that the construction of Sialkot Tannry Zone was briskly underway on 396 acres of land near Khambraanwala-Sialkot, where all the 250 small and big sized tanneries scattered in and around the Sialkot city would soon be shifted to the Zone.
He said that the Punjab government was spending Rs3.47 billion on the project for saving the Sialkot people from the environmental pollution caused by these tanneries.
He said that a chunk of Rs.1.3 billion was direly needed to install an international standard water treatment plant in this tannery zone, asking the WB delegation to provide these funds at earliest.
The DC told the WB Delegation that all the 250 tanneries from Sialkot city would soon be shifted to this tannery zone. He said that the construction of 3km boundary wall, and 60, 90 120 feet wide different roads had already been completed in the zones.
HOUSE LOOTED: Some unknown thieves broke into the house of a local exporter Adnan Shafiq Sheikh in Sialkot Cantt's Zafar Ali Road locality and decamped with cash in national and foreign currencies, gold ornaments, electronics and other valuables (worth of Rs. 4 million).
Victim Adnan Shafiq Sheikh told the police he and his family had gone out for dinner, when some unknown broke into his house and decamped with Rs2 million in cash, 15,000 Saudi Riyals, 5,000 US $, 15 Tolas gold ornaments, electronics and other valuables worth Rs4 million. Sialkot Cantt police have registered a case with no clue or arrest.
In village Bheello Mahaar-Motra, Daska tehsil, six unknown armed dacoits looted cash, electronics, ATMs cards, mobile phones, 50 mobile phone SIMs worth Rs0.4 million at gunpoint from the male and female family members during a midnight dacoity incident in the house of local trader Syed Farhan Inam.
Some unknown thieves also stole gold ornaments , cash and other valuables from the house of a local trader Muneer Hussain in village Sidh(in outskirts of Sialkot Cantt). The family had gone to meet their relatives in Sialkot city when the intruders.
