MADONNA has been ranked as the top music moneymaker in 2008. The list from Billboard puts the popstar in the number one position, with earnings of $242,176,466 (166,848,211). Bon Jovi were in second place with $157,177,766, with Bruce Springsteen, The Police and Celine Dion filling out the top five. The only British act in the top ten was Coldplay who came tenth with $62,175,555. Billboard explained that tour revenue was the main source of income for artists on the list, rather than record sales. Madonna's tour producer Arthur Fogel said that the successful 'Sticky & Sweet' concerts marked the first time he had worked on a tour that has been extended with the star. "She loves the show, she's had a great time and she's excited about playing new markets," he said. Madonna recently added two new dates to the UK leg of the tour, after the first gigs sold out in minutes. - DS
