ISLAMABAD – Capital Development Authority (CDA) has rehabilitated and revitalised its emergency and disaster management system to further boosts its potential to cope with any emergency situation in the federal capital.

Chairman CDA Syed Tahir Shahbaz while talking to media men after inspecting a demonstration of the Fire and Emergency Disasters Management of the Authority on Wednesday said that authority is vigilant and proactive to cope with any emergency in the Federal Capital.

The CDA is fully equipped to tackle with any untoward incident with its modernized machinery and trained staff and special focus is being given to provide the missing facilities for emergency and disasters management.

The special demonstration held at the fire headquarters included operation of four Bronto sky lifts, high rise building rescue, and use of fire and rescue tools as well as canine/dog rescue. 

Member Administration Munir Ahmed and Dy. Director General Municipal Administration Mansoor Ahmed Khan were also present on the occasion. Dy. DG DMA briefed the Chairman that Capital Development Authority (CDA) has achieved the International Standards to respond the Emergency and Disaster situation.

The Emergency and Disaster Management of the CDA is the most equipped and modernized in comparison to those of other Municipalities in the region.

More than 34 Fire Tenders having different capacity to extinguish the fire, rescue vehicle, ambulances and rescue vans are also the part of Fire & Rescue transportation.

Four (4) highly sophisticated sky lifts / Arial Ladders of 29 to 68 meters, besides 46 meter Arial Ledder are also the part of the CDA fleet. He said that fire vehicles and

Branto which were out of order for quite some time has been repaired and made fully functional. Experts from Finland carried out the repair work of the Bronto and other vehicles.

The up-graded Emergency, Rescue and Disaster Management of the Civic Body regularly organizes mock drills to check the preparedness for emergencies and to provide a sense of security and protection to the citizens by demonstrating that it was well equipped and capable to meet any eventuality.

Chairman CDA said that it is a sense of pride for the municipality that its emergency and disaster management has always shown remarkable efficiency to cope with the emergency situations. The Directorate is now fully equipped with latest machinery, equipments and rescue dogs. He said that the role of E&DM of CDA has been widely appreciated during the Peshawar blast, Ghakhar Plaza Rawalpind,

Fire incident, and Hunza Land Sliding incidents in addition to major fire incidents in federal capital and two major air crashes in the area.

Technical search component of Urban Search and Rescue (UNSAR) team has also participated in Gyari (Siachin) operation. He said that although we are fully equipped to respond any emergency and disaster but we are further up-grading our system.

He directed to make the trainings of the E&DM a regular feature and to equip it with the latest technology. The Chairman CDA said that CDA has notified the CDA Building Standards for Fire Prevention and Life Safety and Islamabad fire prevention and life safety regulation to systemise the relevant by-laws.

He said that the CDA continuously carries out risk assessment of public and private building to suggest measures in case of emergency, fire and disaster situations.
