LONDON  - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Wednesday said Pakistan People’s Party had no reservations against the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Talking to a private television channel, the prime minister noted that PPP believed in timely elections. He said the name of a caretaker prime minister had not been finalised so far, adding the caretaker set-up would be acceptable to all.
The premier stated he would ask Chaudhry Nisar to give nominees for the caretaker setup. “Once the Opposition gives names, PPP’s allies would be taken on board,” he added. Ashraf vowed PPP would oppose all moves against the democratic system.
Meanwhile, speaking at a reception hosted by Pakistan’s High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hassan for British parliamentarians at the House of Commons, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said Pakistan was keen to have good relations with neighboring countries, including India.
The prime minister said relations between Pakistan and India were moving in the right direction‚ with exchange of parliamentary and business delegations. He said Pakistan had taken a leap forward to improve ties with India by softening of the borders and holding of composite dialogue to settle all outstanding issues.
The prime minister called for resolution of the core issue of Kashmir in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people and the UN resolutions.
Referring to the Afghan issue‚ the prime minister said if Afghanistan was stable‚ there would also be stability in Pakistan. He said Pakistan was part of the solution and not part of the problem with regard to Afghanistan. He said Pakistan always made sincere efforts for stability and peace in Afghanistan. He appreciated the role of Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom in boosting relations between the two countries.
The prime minister was confident that free‚ fair and impartial elections would be held in Pakistan. He said it was a good omen for the country as well as democracy that all the stakeholders and political forces were satisfied with the Election Commission of Pakistan.
