PESHAWAR - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President, Pir Sabir Shah, has feared that any unconstitutional and anti-democratic move could delay general elections that would result into disintegration of the country. However, he said that his party would foil any such attempt to undermine democratic process by taking all legitimate options.

Speaking at a programme “Guest Hour” organized by the Peshawar Press Club here on Wednesday, PML-N provincial chief said that the so-called champions of democracy were trying to derail the democratic process using different tactics to delay the upcoming elections, but they would not be let them succeeded.

The PML-N has always fought against the anti-democratic forces and blocked their ways to derail democratic process in the past, he claimed.

He alleged that the incumbent rulers were completely failed at all fronts to deliver and come up to the expectations of the masses to lessen their miseries. Criticizing the incumbent PPP-led coalition government, the PML-N leader said that the country had been brought on the verge of collapse amid prevailing vague situation.

“People want positive change only through democratic process in the country,” he observed adding that holding of in-time elections could pull the country of existing turmoil like situations and remove a sense of deprivations among the masses.

Former chief minister Pir Sabir Shah said that the country has been confronted with both internal and external challenges due to the wrong policies of the present rulers. He urged the masses to reject the corrupt faces through the power of ballot during the next general elections, and only choose fair people. PML-N was the only driving force to steer the country out of the present crisis situation.

He also criticized that the government wasn’t taken any effective steps for agriculture, social and economic uplift in the country. Whereas, a certain group of people was taking benefits of the natural and mineral resources of the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.

Commenting on the existing energy crisis in the country, he said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has the capacity to generate over 45,000 mega watts electricity, but unfortunately no mega power project was initiated to address the growing demand of energy despite huge capacity of power generation in the province, he maintained.

Owing to the energy and gas shortage, he said that the industrial growth has stagnated, while more than 4,500 industrial units alone were closed down in the port city of Karachi.

He said that the situation was also worst in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata due to the closure of industries, which resulted huge unemployment.

Pir Sabir Shah said that no effective measures were taken for the upgradation and rehabilitation of the existing industrial units in Faisalabad and elsewhere in the country.

The PML-N provincial leader said that the country is being confronted with worst of economic challenges and passing through difficult juncture of its history.

In the wake of the poor law and order situation, he said people were feeling their lives and properties insecure and unsafe.

He also claimed that Punjab is much safer as compared to rest parts of the country, wherein not any law and order issue, because of timely steps of the ruling PML-Nawaz government in the province. He claimed that PML-N was the only political force to bring political stability and address all issues being faced by masses in the country.

In reply to a query about the interim setup in KP, he said that the provincial government was yet to be initiated process of consultation on formation of caretaker setup.
