LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that vigorous trust of the people was a clear reflection of the success of Metro Bus System, and opponents had now gone speechless, over its splendid success.
The CM presiding a meeting to review Metro Bus System operation asked the people to adopt a discipline while traveling. He said that the unique project had achieved tremendous popularity, within three days. PML-N Parliamentarians and senior office-bearers had been deputed to maintain discipline at the bus stations to guide the travelers.
The CM said that every bus had a capacity of 150 passengers, therefore it should overcrowding should be ensured adding that women should get priority. He directed police officials to maintain law and order at bus stations as well as inside the buses. He said that civilised nations respect the women and the elderly, and indecent behavior was not expected from a cultured nation.
The CM directed that special arrangements should be made in the buses for women and the aged, while strict action should be taken against those indulging in hooliganism. He said effective steps should be taken to stop people from coming on to the bus tracks, besides taking strict action against them. Managing Director Metro Bus Authority informed that significant improvement had been registered in the bus operation.
Meanwhile, the CM has appealed to the people to ensure safety of the metro buses against any damage. He said that people had warmly greeted the international level comfortable and speedy bus service which was exemplary. However, he said, few incidents of buse damage had happened during the first two days of bus service, due to rush of people, which was highly regrettable. He said Metro Buses and all related instillations was a precious asset of the nation and it is the responsibility of the people to protect them. He said people’s favorite Metro Bus Service could only continue successfully, if no damage was caused to buses and its instillations.
