PESHAWAR - Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Wednesday cautioned against making any attempt to postpone the next general elections and said his party would resist such a move with full force.Addressing a mammoth public gathering arranged in Sherpao village in Tangi tehsil of Charsadda district in connection with the 38th death anniversary of Shaheed Hayat Mohammad Khan Sherpao, he said holding of timely election was the only way to steer the country out of the prevailing morass.“The country is passing through a critical stage and conducting the polls on schedule is in the larger interest of the nation,” he remarked. He said that there was uncertainty among the people at large and the government should evolve consensus on putting in place the caretaker setup in order to remove the confusion.QWP Secretary General Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, provincial President Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, General Secretary Bakht Baidar Khan and others spoke on the occasion.He said those claiming to be the champions of the rights of the Pakhtuns had done nothing to mitigate their sufferings. He said the rulers were busy serving their own interests and had failed to establish peace on the soil of the Pakhtuns.The QWP leader said that thousands of Pakhtuns, law-enforcement personnel and soldiers lost lives in the war against terrorism. “Sense of despondency is growing among the Pakhtuns and there is a dire need to soothe them,” he maintained.About the Awami National Party (ANP)-convened All Parties Conference, he said, “Though we have our reservations, we will attend the moot for the sake of restoring peace on the Pakhtuns’ land.”Aftab Sherpao said that the masses had lost faith in the rulers as they had done nothing to provide them relief.“We will actively take part in the forthcoming polls,” he declared. He said his party would win maximum numbers of seats in the next general elections and would make efforts to secure the rights of the people.The QWP leader said his party had sympathy for the militancy-affected people and would stand by them at this critical juncture.Paying rich tributes to Hayat Mohammad Khan Sherpao, he said that being a revolutionary leader he had fought for the rights of the Pakhtuns.He said the mission of slain leader was a guiding principle for the people and his party would leave no stone unturned for achieving this cause.
