LAHORE - Lahore SSP (Investigation) Rana Ayyaz Saleem suspended a sub-inspector from service on Friday who arrested an accused person wanted to police in a fraud case. The accused was also released on the orders of the top police investigator on Thursday night despite the fact that his pre-arrest bail had been cancelled by a Lahore additional sessions last December.
A police spokesperson claimed that Sub Inspector Muhammad Akmal of police station Defence-A was suspended from service for misuse of powers on the orders of the SSP Investigation. According to a press release, the investigation officer arrested Abdul Kareem without having concrete evidences against him. The SSP took the notice when the brother of the accused person appeared before him and complained that the police were demanding bribe to get confirmed the bail of the accused.
Muhammad Imran, who got a criminal case (FIR No 689/14) registered against Abdul Kareem and his accomplices, says that the accused person was released on the orders of the top police investigator.
According to the court orders, “During the course of investigation, offense under section 467 PPC has been added as per Zamni No 27, dated 12.10. 2014. Police have also declared the present accused/petitioner as guilty of occurrence. The disputed car has further been sold with the connivance of present petitioner since upon the receipt of the sold car, further, the signatures of the present petitioner are found.”
“For what has been discussed above, the present petitioner has failed to point out any malafide on behalf of the complainant of the police which is basic ingredient for grant of pre-arrest bail. Hence, the instant bail petition is dismissed and ad-interim pre-arrest bail already granted to the petitioner is recalled,” the order further stated.
The complainant, Muhammad Imran, said that he had been running from pillar to post to get the fraudster arrested for last few couple of months. After hectic efforts, the police successfully arrested the accused person but he was released from the police station within a few hours. “Now where should I go to get justice?” the victim questioned.
According to him, the accused person was released by the SSP on the request of a district police officer. The complainant has appealed to Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera to take notice of the police highhandedness and appoint a senior inquiry officer to probe into the matter.
