Industrialists protest against gas interruption

KARACHI
Industrialists under SITE Association of Industry in Karachi staged a protest near Governor House on Friday in the wake of non-availability of gas supply to the industries.
Protesters were holding black flags and placards urging to resume gas supply. They said the pressure of gas provided to the industries has been considerably low from the past two days that has halted work at the industries whereas the gas supply was cut short for 13 days in January as well.
They urged Governor Ishratul Ibad and CM to grant them their due right.
They further accused the gas supply company of making excuses while the industries were in complete shambles.
DIG South Abdul Khalique Sheikh met the protesters and stated that the protesters were demonstrating peacefully whereas the protest at Fawara Chowk clogged the road for traffic.
Steps being taken to improve gas pressure: SSGC
An overall shortfall of 40 mmcfd was recorded in Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) system due to curtailed gas supply from Bhit and Naimat Basal gas fields.
Due to this shortage, the supplies have also effected and the utility has been receiving calls from Karachi city and interior Sindh, complaining of low gas pressure, a statement of SSGC said here on Friday.
The SSGC management putting its all efforts to improve the supply situation has taken immediate effective steps. In this regards gas supplies to power generation companies i.e. KE and WAPDA have been curtailed to improve the pressures.
Moreover, it has been decided that gas supply to all CNG stations in Sindh would remain discontinued on Friday.
All CNG stations in Sindh will remain open on Saturday.
It is anticipated that SSGC's off take will improve by tomorrow as the gas supplies from Bhit and Naimat Basal gas fields are expected to return to normal.
The management is concerned on this situation and regrets the inconvenience caused to its worthy customers due to this short supply of gas, it added.
