KPK Youth Games postponed

PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Friday announced to postpone the much- awaited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Youth Games with an abrupt announcment without giving any reason. However, later the government said they were postponig the games due to potential  security threat for holding the games and would announce the next date for organising the Games soon.
KPK province is the worst-hit part of the country by the terrorists and event on Friday terrorsists targetted an Imambargah and about twenty people were killed in the attack. The scheduled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Youth Games have to commence from February 16 at Qayyum Sports Complex Peshawar for which all the arrangements have already been finalized, but "We are going to announce that these games are postponed owing to security concerns", Secretary Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Aftab Akhbar Durrani said this while addressing a press conference here at Media Center.
He said that the decision has been taken in the larger interest of the players' security. He said the games would be rescheduled very soon. He said that present government wanted to restore all sort of sports activities as people of the country in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular are pasting through critical times.
“We scheduled the youth games to see a smile on the faces of the people of this province. But unluckily we have to postpone the games because of security reason.” He said that they might re-organize these games in phases, because we wanted to involve the youth in healthy activities.
He went on to say that besides planning 12 to 13 different sports events for the current year, we will also hold food, culture and tourism festivities. He said that funds to the associations would be released soon.
