MIRPUR (AJK)

Kashmir Lawyers Club Srinagar President Syed Baber Qadri, currently on a visit to Pakistan and AJK, has called for early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue through free and fair plebiscite in the Indian-Held Kashmir.

He was addressing the members of Mirpur District Bar Association at the DBA hall. Qadri urged that since the people of Jammu & Kashmir were the major party to the Kashmir issue, their (Kashmiris) stance to decide their destiny should be honored.

Kashmir, he said, is not a territorial dispute rather it involved the fate of the people of Jammu & Kashmir who should be granted their right to self determination.

He said that India was trying to materialise its nefarious designs of settling the Hindu Sharnarthis (refugees from West Pakistan since 1947) in the occupied Jammu & Kashmir state with the ulterior motives to convert the centuries-old majority Muslim status of the Jammu & Kashmir state into minority.

“The people of Jammu & Kashmir will not allow India to be succeeded in her said nefarious designs,” he said. The KLC president emphasised for the close bilateral relations between the legal fraternity of all parts of the Jammu & Kashmir state including Azad Jammu Kashmir and the occupied Jammu Kashmir for the exchange of professional know-how and intellect and for strengthening the efforts for the peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue.

President Mirpur DBA Khalid Rasheed Chaudhry chaired the reception meeting hosted in honour of the two-member delegation of the lawyers from Srinagar including Mr Qadri and Kashmir Lawyers Forum General Secretary Shabir Butt.

Former chief justice of AJK High Court Justice (R) Abdul Majeed Mallick, PPP AJK President Munir Hussain Chaudhry and ex secretary Information AJK Shoukat Mallick Advocate were also present. The ceremony was also addressed among others by Mirpur DBA President Khalid Rasheed and Secretary General Shabir Shareef.

Khalid Rasheed welcomed the lawyers’ delegation from Srinagar. “We strongly condemn the increased human rights abuses through the use of state terrorism in held Jammu & Kashmir by the Indian occupation forces. He said that Jammu & Kashmir is the disputed state and its people should be granted their right to decide their future.

Kashmir issue, he said, has entered the decisive stage. The DBA president called upon the peace-loving global forces to play their due role for ensuring the early peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue to pave the way for emergence of durable and everlasting peace in South Asia.
